MEPs accuse Google of monopolization

MEPs want to separate the Internet search engine of Google from the commercial services of the corporation. According to France Press, the corresponding document was adopted at the regular session of the European Parliament.

The deputies believe that when placing links in Google search results the company promotes its own services on more favorable positions, and it is a violation of competition rules in the market.

According to MEPs, Google has actually become a monopolist in the market of Internet search and other services. However, the adopted resolution is purely advisory.

The European Commission has begun the investigation of Google back in 2011 at the request of the owners of search services, who accused the company of abusing its dominant position in the search engine. In February, the European Commission agreed on a number of proposals for the termination of antimonopoly proceedings. But it did not reduce the claims against Google due to its activities.

It is to be recalled that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange said that Google provides the FBI and the CIA with almost unlimited access to the correspondence of e-mail users.
