On Monday December 28, Ukrainian delegation arrived in Belarus to discuss trade issues connected with the entry into force on January 1, 2016 of the Free Trade Area agreement with the EU. The negotiations showed that Belarus is not planning to cancel the free trade area agreement with Ukraine, as Natalia Mykolska, the deputy minister of economic development and trade of Ukraine, wrote on Twitter, Joinfo.ua reports.
“All the urgent trade issues were discussed at the meeting. The main thing – the Republic of Belarus will not come out of the FTA with Ukraine,” – she wrote.
It should be recalled that on December 16, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the suspension of the free trade area agreement with Ukraine from January1, 2016.
Ukrainian Parliament has also approved the law introducing the trade embargo against Russia.
The idea of the law was put forward by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
The explanatory note says that Russia’s food embargo, coming into force on January 1, 2016, and the suspension of the Russian Federation of the agreement on free trade zone with Ukraine “in the near future (in the beginning of 2016) will pose a threat to the interests of national economic security and economic interests of Ukraine, to the legitimate interests of economic actors, and contain indications of discriminatory actions against Ukraine in the sphere of trade.”
