Canada invites small and medium-sized Ukrainian business to its market
The Government of Canada has allocated $13.6 mln to attract small and medium-sized business of Ukraine to its market. Canadian Government is partnering with the Conference Board of Canada in the Canada-Ukraine Trade and Investment Support project

A non-profit scientific organization Conference Board of Canada, dedicated to researching and analyzing economic trends and organizational performance, with support of the Government of Canada, is developing  the Canada-Ukraine Trade and Investments Support project (CUTIS) that will help small and medium-sized enterprises in Ukraine access Canadian and global markets, Joinfo.ua reports.

According to the statement, Canada will contribute $13.6 million to the Canada-Ukraine Trade and Investment Support project between 2016 and 2021. The Government of Canada is partnering with the Conference Board of Canada and the Canada-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce to deliver the Canada-Ukraine Trade and Investment Support project. The project will equip small and medium-sized enterprises, particularly those led by women, with the tools, training and knowledge necessary to export their products and services to Canadian and other markets and to attract Canadian investment to expand their businesses.

Paul Darby, Conference Board of Canada Executive Director on International Programs, said that the project task is to find in the Ukrainian market small and medium-sized enterprises producing goods with added value, which are in demand in the Canadian market.

Now the project is at the very start, at the stage of investigation of the Canadian market. When the research chooses the desired products, then specific Ukrainian producers of such products will be determined.

“We need to understand where these products are produced, thus we have to work with regional companies and involve local organizations and chambers of commerce into training”, – Paul Darby said.

In addition, the project will provide technical assistance to small and medium-sized enterprises, e.g. on Canadian requirements for packaging, logistics to the Canadian market, compliance of Ukrainian goods with the technical standards of Canada, etc.

The first phase of market research and information processing will take about a year. After that, a work with the Ukrainian business will begin.

The project is funded by the Government of Canada, but it will be partially funded by the private business. In the framework of the project, companies will visit Canada trade exhibitions and b2b events. Ukrainian companies will have to cover travel expenses, but the specific share will be determined later.

More information about participation in the project can be accessed at the following address: [email protected]. Contact person – Igor Sanzharov, director of the project in Ukraine.
