Model with bionic arm on catwalk at Fashion Week in New York

Fashion Week in New York started on September 13. A model with a prosthesis instead of a hand (bionic prosthesis) got up on the catwalk. Rebekah Marine,28, a car saleswoman from New Jersey, was born without a right fore-arm.

Rebekah always wanted to become a professional model. She used to visit auditions and photo shoots with her mother, but she was always refused.

As the girl herself says, “the fashion industry has come a long way before it could take models with disabilities.”

“It’s been quite a journey for me. It was hard at first to put myself out there for the whole world to see. But I’ve become quite comfortable with myself now, and I’m the happiest I’ve ever been,” Rebekah said.

Bionic prosthesis is very comfortable and gives one a chance for a full life. Just like in the case of Rebekah, thanks to sensors in her bionic arm, she moves her fingers, which gives her an opportunity to take some of the items or eat with a knife and fork.
