The specialized surgical team from Canada will arrive in Kiev in late October to perform free reconstructive complex surgical procedures in wounded fighters and activists of the Maidan and ATO, said Cristina Valer, the director of the humanitarian initiatives of the Canada Ukraine Foundation at the briefing, Joinfo.ua reports.
The mission – is the third one. During the second mission 53 reconstructive procedures were performed in 29 patients between May 10-16, 2015, this included: 13 upper extremity reconstructions, 5 skull reconstructions, 14 facial soft tissue (nose/eyelid/lip/cheek/scalp) reconstructions, 20 facial bone reconstructions (mandible, orbit, midface, nose)
“From 23 October to 1 November we conduct reconstructive surgeries for wounded warriors and activists in the Central Military Hospital in Kiev. All procedures are free,” – she said.
“We hope to make 30-40 procedures,” – said Valery. The Government of Canada has allocated 1.2 million Canadian dollars for the mission.
Canadian doctors together with our Ukrainian colleagues will conduct surgeries on the face and hands, post-traumatic craniofacial deformities, soft tissue defects and scars removal.
The CUF plans to conduct the fourth mission in February 2016.
