A boat capsized and drowned during excursion tour near Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi in Odesa region, 12 people were killed, 23 people were rescued. This was announced by the governor of the Odesa region, Mikheil Saakashvili on his Twitter.

Later, the press service of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine in a statement said that 12 people were killed in the accident and 23 people were rescued, the rescue operation continues.

“On October 17 a touring boat “Ivolga” departed from a private base for excursion in the Black Sea near the town of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi. According to preliminary data 36 people were on board. While returning to the base at about 16.00 the boat capsized,” – said the statement.

First Deputy Head of the Odessa regional administration Volodymyr Zhmak on his Facebook page added that the ship sank at a distance of about 1 km from the coast. According to him, on board were 33 passengers and 3 crew members.

“23 people rescued, 18 of them – in the hospital Belgorod-Dniester, 5 – refused to stay in hospital. The cause of the tragedy – a violent storm and the lack of life jackets. We found 12 drowned. Another one looking for,” – he wrote.

Earlier, a violent storm in Odessa, which has been raging for several days, destroyed part of the embankment on the beach Langeron and broke the boat in the Black Sea Yacht Club.
