Yesterday, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko took part in the ceremony of the launch of power lines from Rivne NPP to Kyiv region, which will provide electricity to Kyiv region, as well as central and northern regions of Ukraine, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to the AP press service.

At the ceremony President Poroshenko said: “This will increase the energy independence of our state and make the work of the entire energy complex of Ukraine much more efficient and cost effective.”

According to the President, the intensity of power units at Khmelnytsky and Rivne NPP is now being increased. The overall structure of energy balance of Ukraine increased the share of nuclear energy from 48 to 55% during the year. This will reduce Ukraine’s dependence on the coal imports.

The President noted that the improvement of the energy supply system of Kyiv region would be the next step in that context. “Now we can say that it will prevent rolling blackout in Kyiv region which took place last winter. We have significantly improved the reliability of energy supply of Ukraine,” Petro Poroshenko emphasized.
