30th anniversary of Chornobyl: Ukrainian President honored memory of liquidators and victims of disaster

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko laid flowers to memorial “To Heroes of Chornobyl” and memorial sign “To Warriors of Chornobyl” in the Memorial Complex of the Victims of Chornobyl Disaster, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to the Presidential press service.

During his visit to the Chornobyl NPP today, President Poroshenko presented 12 awards for a significant personal contribution to the issue of overcoming consequences of the Chornobyl disaster, selfless service, high professionalism, many years of fruitful public activities.

“It is with a deep sorrow that we remember those who sacrificed lives in the struggle against the nuclear disaster at the Chornobyl NPP and those who continue fulfilling difficult and responsible tasks at the plant and in the exclusion zone,” the President said in the course of his speech on the occasion of the 30^th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster.

President Poroshenko has also laid flowers to the monument to the Heroes of Chornobyl located near the 4^th power unit of the NPP.
