Lunar eclipse will be seen to the citizens of North America, western South America, Australia, New Zealand and parts of eastern Asia. The Europeans and the citizens of the European part of Russia will not have such a possibility. The east of Russia will see it only partially. However, for those who still want to see the process of developing the phenomenon "live", but does not have such a possibility, NASA will hold online broadcast.
Total lunar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth and Moon are on the same axis, and our natural satellite enters the cone of the shadow cast by our planet. In this case, the Moon can be "painted" in dark red color. It happens because the Moon, even in the total eclipse phase continues to be illuminated. The Sun"s rays passing through the tangent to the Earth"s surface are scattered in the Earth"s atmosphere and in the result of this scattering, they partially reach the Moon. Due to the fact that the Earth"s atmosphere is transparent for the rays of orange-red part of the spectrum, these rays reach the lunar surface during the eclipse, which explains the possible "bloody" color.
According to the American astronomer Tony Phillips, if a person is on the Moon at this time, it is possible to witness such a picture, "The Earth turned to you with its night side and completely hides behind the Sun. Eclipse goes on. But the Earth does not look completely dark, the edges of the planet burn. At this moment, you can watch all the sunrises and sunsets in the world at the same time."
It is already the second total lunar eclipse in this year. And the second one in the history of total lunar eclipses of 2014-2015. Previous eclipse took place April 15. The following phenomena of this kind will take place April 4 and September 28, 2015.
