New inventions: smartphone able to recognize a fake

Japanese company NEC has developed a very useful technology that can determine the authenticity of a product within the shortest possible time and with little effort. To do this, you just need to take a photo of the product.

Thus, to avoid buying counterfeit products, it is enough to have a smartphone or tablet. To determine the original goods you need to use a special optical attachment. Thus, the picture is sent to the database and correlated with the similar models already sent there.

New technology focuses on the fine structure of the metal or plastic parts of the subject and, on the basis of the results obtained, it determines what may not always be noticed by the consumer – the authenticity of the goods. If the program detects a discrepancy, the user will be notified with a message.

The Japanese developers add that besides the recognition of a fake, such technology can be used for determining the product's place of manufacture. The novelty will be available to consumers in about eighteen months.
