A child conceived as a result of egg fertilization, frozen thirteen years ago was born in Japan, Japanese media reports. The egg was frozen due to illness of the expectant mother.
In 2001, when the mother was a schoolgirl, she was diagnosed with cancer. Due to lymphoma diagnosed, she could lose the reproductive function. That is why before insecure chemotherapy she decided to give her egg for freezing.
The "biomaterial" has been stored in Japanese cryo clinic for thirteen years. Fortunately, the treatment was successful, and last year the girl got married. Fertilization was conducted by IVF doctors, and then the fertilized egg was transplanted into the mother.
The baby was born in August, and now it is perfectly healthy. Even with the considerable progress in the field of artificial insemination, the birth using the egg that has been frozen for over a decade, is a rarity even for such an advanced country like Japan.
