Google’s Hands Free app lets users carry out mobile payments at compatible cash registers using nothing but their voice.
Simply telling the cashier “I want to pay with Google” is enough to get the ball rolling on the transaction. A Bluetooth sensor in the till will detect the app on the customer’s phone and send them a digital receipt.
Google is currently trialing the app around the San Francisco Bay area, with test partners including McDonald’s and Papa John’s.
Presumably there are issues to work around – like what would happen if a dozen Hands Free users are standing in the vicinity of a compatible register.
