President of Ukraine and the U.S. Vice President in a phone conference on Tuesday strongly condemned the verdict in the case of Nadiya Savchenko and urged Moscow to fulfill the Minsk agreements responsibly

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the U.S. Vice President Joe Biden strongly condemned the so-called verdict in the case of Nadiya Savchenko announced by the Donetsk Court of the Russian Federation, Joinfo.ua reports with the reference to the President’s press service.

“Ukraine will never recognize this show trial,” Petro Poroshenko emphasized.

The parties coordinated positions for the immediate return of Nadiya Savchenko to Ukraine.

The U.S. Vice President assured that respective signals on immediate liberation of Savchenko will be communicated to the Russian side in the course of the coming visit to Moscow of the U.S. Secretary of State.

President Poroshenko drew attention to a Savchenko List elaborated by Ukraine, which includes persons involved in trumping up a case against her.

Joseph Biden also noted that the First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama was deeply touched by the appeal of President’s wife Maryna Poroshenko to her with a request to join the campaign on Nadiya Savchenko’s liberation.

Petro Poroshenko informed the U.S. Vice President on the recent developments in Donbas, where Russia-controlled militants continue ignoring security provisions of the Minsk agreements and shelling Ukrainian positions every day.

Joseph Biden confirmed the unwavering position of the United States as regards protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as preserving sanctions against Russia until full implementation of the Minsk agreements.

The U.S. Vice President also confirmed that the U.S. would continue providing assistance to Ukraine on the track of reforms. He praised the efforts of the Ukrainian President on immediate settlement of political crisis on the basis of formation of a pro-European reform-oriented government.

The parties condemned terrorist attacks in Brussels and called for unity in the struggle against terrorist threat in any manifestations.

They also discussed the schedule for the next top level contacts between Ukraine and the United States.

It should be recalled that yesterday the Donetsk City Court of Russia’s Rostov region has sentenced Nadiya Savchenko to 22 years’ imprisonment in a penal colony.

Earlier President Poroshenko said in his statement on the verdict of the Russian court on Nadiya Savchenko’s case that Ukraine will never recognize “either this show trial or their so-called sentence.”
