According to the lawyer Otar Kakhidze, the house and land of his client in Kvareli were confiscated, pending the end of the investigation.

Meanwhile, the Court of Appeals in Tbilisi impounded the house that belongs to his wife Sandra Roelofs Saakashvili as well as the property of his mother and grandmother.

These actions led to criticism of the West, including the United States, who warned the Georgian authorities against politically motivated prosecution of former officials.

Mikheil Saakashvili was the President of Georgia from 2003 to 2013. He left the country last November after his presidency ended.

Saakashvili was accused in absentia in abuse of power and organizing an attack on the deputy.

He says these charges are groundless.
