The citizen of the United Kingdom and Iran Ghoncheh Ghavami was sentenced to one year in prison for attending a volleyball match. The Iran court accused her of "propaganda against the regime".

According to the lawyer of Ghavami, she was arrested when together with other activists, who was asserting women's rights, she tried to get to the stadium in Tehran on the match between the men's national teams of Italy and Iran. It is to be noted, that women in Iran are strictly forbidden to attend sports events with the participation of men. These matches can be watched by women only on TV.

After the arrest, a woman has gone on hunger strike in protest against the decision of the court sentencing her to one-year imprisonment.

"She has gone on hunger strike on Saturday. She does not eat solid food and does not drink," said the brother of the girl, Iman Ghavami to France Presse.
