Sweden is not the first European country that have ratified the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union. Earlier this procedure was conducted in Estonia, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Latvia, Malta and Romania. Also, September 16 the document was simultaneously ratified by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the European Parliament.
It is to be recalled now there is undergoing a two-day visit of the head of the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Margot Wallstrom to Ukraine. The minister will meet with the leadership of the country, particularly with the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pavlo Klimkin.
Wallstrom has already declared that Sweden was ready to increase humanitarian assistance which her country intends to provide to the regions of Ukraine affected by the activity of the pro-Russian militants of self-proclaimed republics DPR and LPR and the Russian army, which supports them. Therefore, according to the head of the Swedish Foreign Ministry, Ukraine will receive additional 10 million krona.
In addition, in the course of his visit to Ukraine, there will be discussed the issues of cooperation with Sweden in the economic area, the prospects for Sweden's support for Ukraine in the context of implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU. Attention will be paid to the prospects of cooperation in the energy sector, namely, in the nuclear field.
