French Senate ratified the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU. According to the media, the document was approved under the accelerated procedure.
The meeting was attended by Ambassador of Ukraine to France Oleh Shamshur and people's deputies of Ukraine Oleksiy Honcharenko and Iryna Herashchenko.
"The conclusion of the Association Agreement aims to strengthen political dialogue, trade and economic exchange between Ukraine and the EU, which will help to bring together the legal basis and to launch comprehensive trade liberalization in the context of "political association and economic integration" with the EU," the preamble reads.
The agreement was approved under the accelerated procedure, initiated by the Government on 25 March, 2015.
Ratification of the agreement was supported by Daniel Reiner, Vice-Chairman of the Commission for External Affairs, Defence and Armed Forces, Herve Maurey, Chairman of the France-Ukraine friendship group at the Senate of the French Republic, Andre Gattolin, Senator of Les Verts faction, and Michel Bilout, Senator of the CRC group, and others. The debate was attended by nine senators.
It should be recalled that Ukraine and the EU signed the political part of the Association Agreement on March 21, 2014, postponing the signing of the economic part, which includes provisions on free trade, until the presidential elections in Ukraine.
The newly elected President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed the Association Agreement with the EU in full on June 27, 2014. September, 16 the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the European Parliament simultaneously ratified the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union.

In addition, the current procedure for ratifying the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union are fully completed by such EU members as Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Lithuania, Latvia, Malta, Estonia, Sweden, Bulgaria, Poland, Croatia, Germany, Denmark, Ireland, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, as well as Ukraine itself. In addition, the ratification of the agreement was supported by the European Parliament.
