Poroshenko promises to show EU reliable border protection to receive visa-free regime

According to Poroshenko, by November, there should be completed all the activities and Ukraine has to show the EU that it protects the border and deserves to receive the visa-free regime, Joinfo.ua reports.

"Now, the country is going through a phase of practical, daily steps aimed at receiving the visa-free regime with the EU. The last EU assessment mission will arrive in September. We must complete everything by November and demonstrate that we have implemented the integrated border management, the Ukrainian border is transparent for honest people and Ukraine defends the border reliably," he said.

Poroshenko believes that today the modern, well-equipped and effective State Border Service is of paramount importance for the assertion of Ukraine's national interests. "The more impenetrable the border will be for criminals, the more transparent it will be for Ukrainian citizens in the West. Reliable block against terrorism, illegal migration and smuggling on the state border is a very important component of practical European integration of Ukraine," the President said.

He added that it was necessary to regain control over the border line, as Ukraine "needs two things – to close the border and withdraw all foreign troops from the territory of Ukraine."

It should be recalled that a source at the summit of the Eastern Partnership held on May 22 reported that the introduction of the visa-free regime for Georgian citizens would be provided by the beginning of 2016, and the Ukrainian citizens would be able to travel in EU visa-freely by the end of the next year.
