Ukrainian Emergency Service reported on 7 a.m. of January 9, that 142 towns and villages remain cut off from the electricity because of downed wires after wet snow hit Ukraine on 7-8 January, Joinfo.ua reports.
“142 communities in seven regions: in Poltava region – 72, Kirovograd – 38, Odesa – 17, Mykolaiv – 7, Cherkasy – 6, Dnipropetrovsk – 1, Donetsk – 1, remain de-energized”, – the Emergency Service report said.
It was also noted that during yesterday the service restored power supply in 126 towns and villages of Ukraine.
“Power supply was restored in three regions, namely: in Odesa region – in 90 communities, Donetsk – 21, Dnepropetrovsk – 15, which had been de-energized on 7 and 8 January by the power lines automatic protective system due to the severe weather conditions (wet snow, sleet),”- said the rescuers. Region emergency teams continue repairs.
National Police reported on 487 car accidents during 7-8 January mostly caused by the bad weather, ice-covered roads and drivers’ negligence. As a result, 12 people died and 117 injured.
The Emergency Service also announced storm alert on Saturday January 9.
