A man who inherited a house in Evreux, Normandy, has found 100 kilos of gold. The value of the find is around 3.5 million euros

“There were 5,000 gold coins, two bars of 12 kg and 37 bars of 1 kg each [in the house],” said auctioneer Nicolas Fierfort, the lucky owner, to the French newspaper La Dépêche, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to French media.

The gold was very well hidden and was only discovered late last month when the house was emptied.

“The gold was under furniture, under piles of linens and in the bathroom,” said Fierfort. In addition, gold was also hidden in a whiskey bottle and a tin under a piece of furniture.

The gold appears to be legally purchased in the 1950-60s, since certificates of authenticity were also found. The loot was taken to an auction house in Evreux, where it has been sold to both French and international buyers. Besides the heir is French citizen, so tax authorities are probably delighted with the find, because the owner is entitled to 45 percent tax of the money due to inheritance.
